Although there is a little bit of chemistry involved in knocking up an excellent e-liquid, it’s hardly brain surgery. There are three key ingredients involved: flavouring, nicotine, and either propylene glycol or vegetable glycerine.
The real challenge comes if you want to concoct a blend that perfectly combines several flavours – without one of them overpowering the others. Sure, it might take a little bit of trial and error, but with these handy tips, you’ll be on the right track.
Take it step by step
Unfortunately, blending is not as simple as adding each flavour in equal quantities. Some liquids are quite subtle, while others are really strong even in the tiniest of doses. On top of all that, you can never really predict how they’ll taste combined. It’s no wonder that some vapers go wrong in their first attempts.
Usually, you can expect between 5% and 20% flavouring in the average bottle of e-liquid – but this can tumble down to 1% to 3% for tobacco flavours. Remember the percentage of your blend will be based on all the flavours you’ve used combined, and you might need to try several strengths before you settle on a dosage.
To save cash, it’s worth ordering new e-liquids in smaller sizes until you’re certain you want to stick with it. Otherwise, you’ll end up with a big bottle that’s not to your taste.
Think things through
Through VaporFi, there’s more than 30,000 different flavour combos at your fingertips. It’s definitely worth trying to whittle down the options by thinking about the flavours you want to get from your e-cigarette.
Do you have a sweet tooth, or are you looking to satisfy a tobacco craving? Are you yearning for that minty fresh menthol taste? Before you get bogged down in individual flavours, try to think of the category you’re after – whether it’s something fruity, dessert inspired, tobacco based or menthol like.
This’ll pave the way for you to start selecting the flavours you want, and keeps your options open to new ingredients you might not have considered before.
Wait, we’re missing something…
The end result of your blend can be affected by some of the other ingredients in your e-liquid, such as nicotine. Going stronger will result in a more intense sensation in your throat – and if you were a heavy smoker, this could help keep cravings at bay. Getting the balance right could also amplify the flavours you’ve chosen, hence why it’s worth experimenting. There’s a range of nicotine strengths available – all the way from 0% to 3.6%.
No two vapers are the same, as we all want something different from our liquids. If you want more of a hit when taking a drag, try adjusting the nicotine level until it’s just right.
When you’re blending your own, it’s worth remembering that it’s a one-of-a-kind mix that you won’t be able to pick off the shelf tomorrow. As such, be sure to measure carefully and write down your recipe for future reference. Otherwise, your custom masterpiece could prove difficult to replicate.
If you’re struggling to get creative, don’t worry. Our range of e-liquids eliminate the fuss – with great blends such as Tobaccolicious (vanilla and caramel with a tobacco kick), a chocolate-infused coffee number we call ChocoJava, and the self-explanatory Peaches N’ Crème.
